Terms of Service
Effective September 29, 2026 · Last updated 2026-10-02
These terms cover your use of NautFix (nautfix.com), including NautHelp, First Mate, Pro Help, the Shop portal and the Pro portal. By creating an account or using NautFix you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use NautFix.
1. Your account
- You must be at least 18 to create an account, except crew: a boat's owner can add someone aged 13 to 17 as crew on their boat, with that person's parent's or guardian's permission. Crew sign in with their own email, use NautFix only for the boats they crew, and the owner who added them is responsible for that use. Nobody under 13 may use NautFix.
- Give your real first and last name and keep your email address current; we use it to sign you in.
- You're responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us through the Support page if you think someone else has access.
- Text alerts (optional): if you turn them on and reply YES, NautFix texts you about your boats, messages, video calls and service reports. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to cancel or HELP for help. Carriers aren't liable for delayed or undelivered messages. If you allow calls in Notifications, we may call the number you confirm with an automated, recorded message when your pro or shop is ready for a video call; press 9 on any call or turn calls off in Notifications to stop them. Details are in our Privacy Policy.
2. Boats and service records
- Only add boats you own or have permission to manage. Enter hull identification numbers (HINs), engine hours and service details as accurately as you can.
- A boat's service history stays with the boat. When a boat is transferred or sold, its records stay with the hull, so future owners and shops can see its history under the rules in our Privacy Policy. Your own name and contact details are not passed along. If you delete your account, your boat's records and trips stay with the boat without your name (section 13).
- You can correct records you enter. After 24 hours the earlier version is kept and the record shows as corrected. Records logged by a shop can only be changed by that shop.
- "Shop verified" means the work was logged by a shop we approved. It isn't a guarantee that the work was done correctly; NautFix doesn't inspect boats or work.
3. Shops
- Shops that register agree to report all the service work they perform on boats in NautFix, accurately and truthfully. In return, approved shops get free history lookups for boats they service, when history reports are available.
- Shops may only look up and add boats for legitimate service reasons, and must not misuse owner information.
- We may approve, decline, mark as not verified, or suspend a shop at our discretion, for example for reporting inaccurate work or looking up far more than they report.
4. First Mate (AI) and Pro Help
- First Mate is an AI assistant and can be wrong. Its answers are general information, not a professional inspection, and not a substitute for your engine's manual or a qualified marine mechanic. It may search the web and show pictures from other websites, with a link to their source.
- Pro Help connects you with independent marine professionals by message and video. Pros can only see and hear what you show them. Their guidance is advice, not a guarantee, and doesn't replace an in-person inspection.
- Safety first. Never follow any advice that feels unsafe. In an emergency on the water, call 911 or the U.S. Coast Guard on VHF channel 16. Don't use a boat with a fuel leak, fuel smell, electrical burning smell, or steering or throttle problems until it has been inspected in person.
- You're responsible for decisions about your boat and for any work you do yourself.
5. Charts, route check and routes (NautPlot)
- NautPlot is not for navigation. Its charts, tides and currents, depth shading, markers and every other map layer are for planning and general awareness only. They are not a substitute for official, up-to-date charts, notices to mariners, a working depth sounder, a proper lookout, or your own seamanship. Charts and data can be out of date, incomplete or wrong, and the map can fail or be blank without warning.
- Route check and automatic routes are aids only. They compare a route with the chart data we have, your boat's draft and height as you entered them, and the limits of that data. They can miss hazards (rocks, wrecks, shoaling, moving or unmarked objects, bridges, cables, closures) and can mark a safe route as a problem. "No problems" never means a route is safe. A route we draw is a suggestion.
- You must check every route yourself against official charts and current conditions before you use it, and you stay in command of your boat the whole time. NautFix is not responsible for any route you plan, save, share or follow, or for any damage, injury or loss that results.
- GPS position, speed, heading, arrival times and "distance to go" depend on your device and signal. They can be wrong or stop updating.
- Tides, currents and marine data come from public sources and are predictions, not measurements of what is happening now.
6. Float plans and sharing a trip
- A float plan lets you tell people ashore about a trip. If you create one, NautFix may text and email the contacts you name, even though they have no NautFix account. We may tell them that you shared a trip, that you changed your arrival time, that you arrived, that you stopped sharing, and, if you haven't finished the trip or checked in by the "overdue after" time you set, that you are overdue. Each message has a link to a trip page that shows what you chose to share.
- You must have each contact's permission to give us their phone number or email and to have us contact them about your trips. You confirm this each time you add one. Don't add anyone who hasn't agreed.
- A float plan is not a rescue service. NautFix does not watch your trip, does not contact the Coast Guard or any other rescue authority, and does not promise that a text, email or alert is sent, delivered, seen or acted on. Phones, carriers and email can fail, and a trip page only shows a position while your phone has a signal and NautFix is recording. Always carry proper safety gear and a marine radio, and call 911 or the U.S. Coast Guard (VHF channel 16) in an emergency.
- Anyone with a trip link can open the trip page without signing in until the link ends (when you stop sharing, 24 hours after you arrive, or 7 days after the overdue time). Share links only with people you trust.
- Texts to contacts follow the same rules as our other texts: they can reply STOP to stop them. Message and data rates may apply.
7. Crew and co-owners
- Co-owners. An owner can invite someone by email to become a co-owner of a boat. A co-owner is an owner: they see what current owners see. When a boat has more than one owner, every owner must agree before the boat is transferred, a new co-owner is added, or another owner is removed.
- Crew. An owner can give someone crew access to one boat. The owner chooses what the person can do (for example log hours, record trips, use charts for that boat, see what maintenance is due, or add their own do-it-yourself records). Crew are not owners: they can't see receipts or prices, transfer or change the boat, or connect shops. The owner can change or remove crew access at any time, and it ends when the boat is sold or has no owner. Owners can see what their crew log on the boat.
- Age. Account holders must be 18 or older. The one exception is crew: an owner may add a person aged 13 to 17 as crew, and the owner must have that person's parent's or guardian's permission. The owner is responsible for the crew they add and for what they log. We don't ask crew for their age. Nobody under 13 may use NautFix.
- Only give access to people you trust. You are responsible for who you add as an owner or crew.
8. Offline copies
To work without a signal, the NautFix app keeps a copy of what you can see (and changes you make offline, until they're sent) on your phone or computer. Offline copies can be out of date, and changes made offline are only saved to NautFix once the device reconnects. A copy on your device is only as secure as your device, so use a screen lock and sign out on shared devices. Don't rely on NautFix offline for safety. Maps and charts may not load without a signal.
9. Receipts and AI checks
When you add a receipt to unlock a shop's record, we may use AI to check that it matches that job. The result can be wrong. A receipt we can't confirm may be sent for review by NautFix staff. Only add real receipts for work on your boat.
10. Your content
You keep ownership of what you add (records, photos, receipts, messages). You give NautFix permission to store, process and display it as needed to run the service: for example, showing records to you, to shops you connect, in history reports (when available), and to future owners as described above, and sharing call details and photos with your pro. We may use anonymized, aggregated data (such as typical repair costs) to improve NautFix and to build products, without identifying you.
11. Fair use
Don't break the law using NautFix, enter false records, pretend to be someone else, harass pros, shops or other users, upload anything you don't have the right to share, try to access data that isn't yours, or disrupt the service.
12. Fees
Creating an account and keeping your service records is free. Some features, such as Pro Calls, history reports (when available) or a Plus plan, may be paid. The price is always shown before you pay, and any refund rules are shown with it.
13. Pausing or ending your account
Pause: under Account → Pause or delete my account you can pause your account. While it's paused we send you no notices of any kind and shops' follow-ups, review requests and seasonal notes skip you. Nothing is deleted; sign in and tap Reactivate any time.
Delete: you can delete your account yourself in the same place (or ask through the Support page if you can't sign in). It's deleted 7 days after you ask, and you can cancel until then. We delete what identifies you: your name, email, phone, business name and sign-in, your notification, text and call settings, contacts you saved or shared trips with, your First Mate chats, photos from your trips, chats and messages, and ownership proof. We keep your boat's records, trips including routes, and anonymous price data, without your name. That includes service records and engine hours, trips with their GPS tracks, receipt amounts and prices, boat and service photos, and the work and messages shops and pros shared with you (shown as from "Former customer"). Receipts you added stay as proof of the work, with your personal details (name, address, phone, email, card digits, signature, account numbers) blacked out; if we can't do that safely, the receipt image is deleted. Boats are never deleted: your ownership ends on the day your account is deleted. See the Privacy Policy.
We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms.
14. No warranty; limits on liability
NautFix is provided "as is". We work hard to keep it accurate and available, but we don't promise it will be error-free or uninterrupted, and we don't guarantee any record, answer, or advice. To the fullest extent the law allows, NautFix isn't liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for damage, injury or loss arising from advice given by First Mate, pros or shops, from work done on your boat, or from charts, routes, route checks, float plans or alerts, including ones that are late, wrong or never arrive. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
15. Changes
We may update these terms. If a change is significant, we'll tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use NautFix after that means you accept the new terms.
16. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute that isn't resolved informally will be handled in the state courts located in Whatcom County, Washington, or the federal court for the Western District of Washington, and you and NautFix agree to those courts' jurisdiction.
